Peptide protocols · Glutathione

Glutathione — the master antioxidant.

A tripeptide of cysteine, glycine, and glutamate produced by every cell. Functions as the body's primary antioxidant defense and a critical detoxification cofactor. Supplemented when endogenous production is insufficient or oxidative load is elevated.

What it is

Glutathione is a tripeptide (cysteine + glycine + glutamate) present in every cell. It's the most abundant intracellular antioxidant and a critical cofactor for Phase II liver detoxification. Levels decline with age, stress, and toxic exposure.

Available as injectable, oral capsule (liposomal or S-acetyl forms have better absorption than standard oral), nasal spray, or IV infusion. Bioavailability varies dramatically by format.

How it works

Glutathione neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS) and regenerates other antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E). It's essential for Phase II detoxification pathways in the liver (glutathione conjugation), and for proper mitochondrial function.

Who it's for

Glutathione makes clinical sense for:

  • Patients with elevated oxidative stress markers
  • Patients with documented MTHFR or other methylation issues
  • Recovery from intense training or environmental exposure
  • Supportive use during heavy-metal detox protocols

Dosing and cadence

Injectable: 200–1000mg, 1–3 times per week depending on indication. Oral liposomal: 500–1000mg daily. Nasal spray: 1–2 sprays daily. IV infusion: 1,000–2,000mg per session.

What to expect

Patients with high oxidative load (post-illness, post-training overload, environmental exposure) typically report energy and recovery improvements within 2–4 weeks. Skin clarity changes often noticed in similar timeframe (a side effect, not the primary indication).

How Vektor handles it

Vektor prescribes glutathione in injectable form (200mg/mL in 10mL vial — 2000mg total) and oral capsules through our 503A partner. Format choice depends on absorption needs and lifestyle compatibility.

Frequently asked

Why are oral glutathione supplements often dismissed as ineffective?
Standard oral glutathione is largely broken down in the gut before absorption. Liposomal and S-acetyl glutathione forms partially solve this, but injectable and IV remain the most reliable for therapeutic doses.
Is glutathione safe with other medications?
Generally well-tolerated, but glutathione affects Phase II liver detoxification which can interact with medications metabolized through the same pathways. Discuss your full medication list with your physician.
